Description:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s first and largest province wide, fully-integrated health system, responsible for delivering health services to the more than 4.3 million people living in Alberta, as well as to some residents of Saskatchewan, B.C. and the Northwest Territories.
As part of ensuring collaboration with each other and with emergency services, each hospital is equipped with radio equipment. The challenge is to connect a number of hospitals to the one MPT1327 radio network over a wide area of over 66,848km2. Each location also has differing requirements on the level of dispatch and monitoring.
By placing IPR400 (4-port) and IPR110+ (single port) gateways at each repeater site, hospitals are now able to connect to each other using Radio over IP (RoIP). RoIP provides a cost-effective means of connecting resources over wide areas as it uses existing IP networks. Depending on their dispatch requirements, each location chose whether they used 960 Handset Consoles, a 960CC Consoles or IPR dispatch Touch Screen Consoles. Using MPT1327 radios also provided another level of challenge. However, the IPR gateways proved to pass in-based signaling better than other VoIP gateways on the market.
